Mobile Commerce Marketing

Mobile Commerce is becoming more and more common. This is because people are continuously using their phone more on average year after year. On average Americans spend 2 hours, 54 minutes on their phone each day (reviews). This is a drastic amount of time and over the span of a year it amounts to nearly a month and 44 days in one year. As you probably know mobile commerce is the buying and selling of products and services using a wireless handheld device (smartphone). So what are the benefits of using mobile commerce as a business? Continue reading this blog to find out!

Firstly, it is important to understand that there are three categories of mobile commerce. These three categories are mobile shopping, mobile banking, and mobile payments. This article will focus on mobile shopping, as this is what is most vital to most businesses we work with.

Accessibility

Mobile commerce offers a wider reach and accessibility of consumers. Businesses are able to reach new markets that they had not previously been able to. Think about the amount of people that have a mobile device. Most likely, this is almost everybody you know. This offers a huge customer base and new opportunities for businesses that utilize mobile commerce. Accessibility is also much improved through mobile commerce than, for instance, brick and mortar shops. Customers are able to look at products and services no matter where they are or what they are doing.

Opportunities

There are many new marketing opportunities that come from using mobile commerce. It allows companies to directly reach their product argument with a mobile app. Overall, directly targeting your consumer group in this way can reduce marketing campaign costs. Having an app or mobile friendly website that can be integrated with social media is crucial. It is much easier to get users to spread the word about your products and services when they are integrated.

Data

Mobile commerce provides a lot of crucial customer data. Mobile data tracking enables companies to track consumer data  throughout the whole consumer journey. This means data is being collected from the point that the customer discovers the product until the point of purchase. Mobile commerce can also easily provide customer data such as shopping patterns, demographics and location. This allows a business to better personalize their push notifications, messaging, and product offers.

Customer Experience

Mobile apps and websites often offer a better customer experience. One main advantage of this is that consumers are very familiar with how to use a smartphone or other mobile device. This can make the shopping journey very straightforward and stress free. Mobile commerce also enables businesses to easily push out personalized discounts and notifications that have the potential to spike consumer interest. A survey conducted found that 69% of customers prefer to view a product on their phone rather than speaking to an in-store rep (Droids on Roids). Consumers are able to readily research the product using their mobile devices and simply switch the tab to purchase that same product.

Customer Journey

Lastly, mobile shopping allows for an accelerated consumer journey. Mobile applications allow consumers to look and purchase products faster than on a website. Overall, “mobile applications are 1.5 times faster when loading data and search results on mobile devices” (Droids on Roids). Hopefully you learned something about mobile commerce. Who knows, maybe you may even consider starting to implement it into your own business plan, just like you do as a consumer.
